AVENTURA, Fla. (March 4, 2019) – The Aventura Arts & Cultural Center’s April schedule will continue to delight audiences with the best of ballet, comedy, variety, popular music, children’s performances and international film.
Nominated for a 2019 Academy Award in the Foreign Language Film category, the Aventura International Film Series presents Shoplifters, on Tuesday, April 2 at 7:30 p.m. The winner of the Palme d’Or at the 2018 Cannes festival, Shoplifters follows a Japanese family that shoplifts when the parents can’t make ends meet with the low pay in their part-time jobs. Their lives become something more than carefree when they open their door to a beleaguered teenager and the reasons for the family and friends' habit and their motivations come under the microscope. From writer-director Hirokazu Koreeda, Shoplifters is not rated and is shown in Japanese with English subtitles. The Aventura International Film Series presented by the City of Aventura is hosted by Shelly Isaacs who introduces the film and leads a post-screening discussion. Tickets are $12.
West Coast Performing Arts Presenters stage Direct From Las Vegas! A Salute to Frank Sinatra on Friday, April 5 at 7 p.m. World renowned actor and Sinatra impressionist Gary Anthony performs a dynamic, heartfelt one-man theatrical tribute to Sinatra with his most memorable songs, including “New York, New York,” “You Make Me Feel So Young,” “My Way,” “It Was A Very Good Year,” “Mack The Knife” and more. Considered the world's most authentic Frank Sinatra tribute artist, Anthony has been featured on numerous television shows including World's Greatest Tribute Bands and performed at many of Las Vegas's biggest showrooms. Tickets are $39.
Showcasing some of the finest male voices in the world, the City of Aventura presents The Barricade Boys on Sunday, April 7 at 7 p.m. From the West End, Broadway, International Tour and Hollywood movie of the world’s longest-running musical, Les Misérables, the Barricade Boys’ fabulous harmonies, incredible vocals, dashing good looks and fantastic personalities make this concert unforgettable. They will perform the world’s greatest show tunes and celebrate music from some of the most iconic names in the music industry, from powerful ballads and beautiful operatic arias to some of the best pop, rock and swing numbers of all time. Tickets are $45–$49, $75 VIP tickets include a meet and greet.
The Stand Up Comedy Series presented by Black Box Productions concludes its season with Vic Dibitetto on Saturday, April 13 at 8 p.m., offering audiences nonstop laughter with his frenetic energy, honesty and humanity. Dibitetto was featured in Kevin James' movie Mall Cop and has appeared on America's Funniest People and has warmed up hundreds of audiences for the hit shows Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and The Ricki Lake Show. This event may include adult language and content and is not appropriate for children under 12. Tickets are $36.50–$41.50.
The 2018–19 Family Fun Series presented by Hoffman's Chocolates and the Broward Center for the Performing Arts at the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center wraps its season with Stuart Little on Sunday, April 14 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.. From the loving heart of E. B. White, author of Charlotte's Web and staged by Virginia Rep on Tour, this merry musical tells the tale about a noble mouse that jumps headlong into adventures big enough to match any imagination. By turns funny, tender and exciting, Stuart Little mixes gorgeous child-size puppets with live actors to work theatrical magic. Each show in the series includes free pre-show face painting and arts activities along with a complimentary post-show sweet treat from Hoffman’s Chocolates. These performances are made possible in part through support from the Miami Salon Group, Inc. Tickets are $16 and $18 on the day of the show with $3 lap seats for infants 12-months or younger.
Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida: Spring Gala ends its season on Saturday, April 27 at 7:30 p.m. Under the direction of Ballet Master Vladimir Issaev, the ballet features the most famous classical pas de deux and neoclassical pieces by Issaev with guest choreographers and international dancers. Tickets are $35.
The City of Aventura presents The Golden Dragon Acrobats on Sunday, April 28 at 1:30 and 6:30 p.m. with abridged Smart Stage Matinee performances on Monday, April 29 at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. The Golden Dragons represent the best of a time-honored tradition that began more than twenty-five centuries ago and is recognized throughout the United States and abroad as the premier Chinese acrobatic touring company of today. World-renowned producer Danny Chang and choreographer Angela Chang combine award-winning acrobatics, traditional dance, spectacular costumes, ancient and contemporary music and theatrical techniques to present a show of breathtaking skill and spellbinding beauty. Tickets are $37–$42, $22 student tickets available.
