Defying convention and boundaries, Time For Three (TF3) performs a unique blend of Americana, modern pop and classical music on Friday, January 3 at 8 p.m. To experience TF3 live is to hear the various eras, styles and traditions of Western music fold in on themselves and emerge anew. Bonded by an uncommon blend of their instruments fused together with their voices, Charles Yang( violin, vocals), Nicolas “Nick” Kendall (violin, vocals), and Ranaan Meyer (double bass, vocals), have found a unique voice of expression to share with the world. Earning praise from NPR, NBC, The Wall Street Journal and the Chicago Sun-Times to name a few, these superbly trained classical artists have become renowned for their charismatic and energetic performances. TF3 was featured on famed “Night of the Prom” tour, sharing the stage with such artists as Chaka Khan and Ronan Keating. They’ve also appeared on ABC’s Dancing With The Stars and won an Emmy® for Time For Three In Concert, produced by PBS. The evening of music is presented as part of the Arts Access Program, which assists community-based organizations in presenting arts and cultural performances at Aventura Arts & Cultural Center. The program provides technical assistance and marketing support to local community groups enabling them to develop and build their audiences. Tickets are $45 - $50.
Presented by South Florida Legends, Bee Gees NOW! performs on Saturday, January 4 at 3 and 8 p.m. in a dynamic, interactive and thoroughly entertaining live tribute to the multi-platinum kings of disco. Experience an incredibly technical and theatrical production with the nationally-touring premiere production featuring the Bee Gees Tribute Band which takes the audience on a masterful musical journey that mixes in the Bee Gees songbook of beautiful love ballads with dance fever hits. A meet and greet will be held in the lobby after the show. Tickets are $35-$55.
The Broadway Concert Series kicks-off with Gavin Creel Presented by Vi at Aventura on Sunday, January 5 at 7 p.m. Creel won a 2017 Tony Award®, Drama Desk Award and Outer Critics Circle Award for his performance as Cornelius Hackl in Hello, Dolly! starring Bette Midler and David Hyde Pierce. He is also a Tony Award nominee for Thoroughly Modern Millie and Hair. Other Broadway credits include La Cage Aux Folles, She Loves Me, The Book of Mormon and Waitress. Tickets are $50-$55, $75 VIP tickets include an exclusive opportunity to attend the pre-show soundcheck.
The Bronx Wanderers will deliver a Back-to-the-Future type of rocket fuel in this high-octane ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s rock ‘n’ roll experience on Friday, January 10 at 8 p.m. Tap into the infectious energy of the music that skyrocketed classics like American Graffiti, Happy Days and A Bronx Tale to immediate success. With incredible vocals, musicianship and a genuine love of the music they perform, the Bronx Wanderers recreate the magic of the era in an evening of toe-tapping, hand-clapping and dancing in the aisle all night long. Tickets are $55.
The Broward Center 2019–2020 Family Fun Series at the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center continues with The Pout Fish on Saturday, January 11 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. This new musical features whimsical puppets and live performers in a sweeping oceanic adventure. When Mr. Fish sets out on a quest to find Miss Clam’s missing pearl, he discovers there is more to him than his permanently plastered pout. Based on the book by Deborah Diesen with illustrations by Dan Hanna, this new production is mounted by TheaterWorksUSA and co-conceived, directed and designed by the acclaimed Broadway puppeteers of AchesonWalsh Studios. Tickets are $16 with $3 lap seats for children 12 months and under and also includes pre-performance art activities and post-show snack provided by Canteen.
David Broza is one of the most innovative and creative musicians in the world today and fans can’t wait for David Broza and Friends on Sunday, January 12 at 7:30 p.m. His career spans more than 40 years and runs the gamut from blues to jazz, rock, country, folk and world music. Singing in Hebrew, Spanish, English, and Arabic, he brings together audiences of all cultures and languages. In the summer of 2018, Broza was joined by the New York-based Cuban “Trio Havana” led by flute virtuoso Itai Kriss. This union of musicians sparked the creation of his newest band, David Broza and Friends. Together they bring a unique interpretation to the full spectrum of Broza’s rich repertoire of hits. Tickets are $45-65, $100 VIP tickets include premium seating and a meet and greet.
The Aventura International Film Series continues with By The Grace of God on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 7:30 p.m. The film tells the story of three adult men - Alexandre, François, and Emmanuel - who band together to expose the code of silence that continues to enable a priest who abused them as boys. Their experiences powerfully illustrate the varying effects that the trauma of abuse causes on individuals and their families for years. The true story upon which the film is based is an ongoing scandal in France, with Philippe Barbarin, Cardinal of Lyon, convicted in March 2019 for concealing the conduct of Father Preynat. Not rated, this film is from France with English subtitles. The Aventura International Film Series presented by the City of Aventura is hosted by Shelly Isaacs who introduces the film and leads a post-screening discussion. This film includes adult subject matter and is not appropriate for children under 12. Tickets are $12.
The City of Aventura presents Smart Stage Matinee performances of Steve Trash Science- LIVE! on Friday, January 17 at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. The show answers the questions: Science versus magic? What is science? What's the scientific method? Students will learn this and more with the curriculum-focused science questions in this new rockin' good show from Steve Trash. Based on his successful PBS Kids TV science show, Trash uses real science, kid comedy, music, and amazing magic tricks to create many teachers and kids have called "The Best Field Trip Ever!" Tickets are $10 with $3 lap seats for children 12 months and under.
Black Box Productions’ Stand Up Comedy Series presents Judy Gold on Friday, January 17 at 8 p.m. Gold is the wickedly funny, two-time Emmy® Award-winning comic and television star is best known for her role as the star of her two critically acclaimed, long-running Off-Broadway hit shows: The JudyShow – My Life As A Sitcom (New York Times Critics' Pick) and 25 Questions for a Jewish Mother (GLADD Award, Drama Desk Nominee), Gold is also known for her acclaimed stand-up specials on HBO, Comedy Central and LOGO, as well as for her appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, LOUIE, Broad City, Pop TV’s Nightcap and the new Showtime series, I’m Dying Up Here. She is also the host of the podcast Kill Me Now. New York Times calls her “Fiercely funny, honest and moving”, and The Huffington Post has called her “Comedic Gold: A funny and fantastic ride!” This event may include adult language and content. The magical artistry of Cirque du Soleil meets the flirtatious camp of Moulin Rouge to create sheer magic known as Cirquesco on Saturday, January 18 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Critics say the show is: "Captivating," "Artistry in motion," "Simply breathtaking." Featuring seductive dances and incredible acrobatics that test the limits of the human body, the production is set to an electrifying soundtrack. From Argentinian tango to French burlesque, Cirquesco is a breathtaking production featuring state-of-the-art lighting, costuming and choreography. Tickets are $45-49.
The Miami International Piano Festival continues with Jorge Luis Prats on Sunday, January 19 at 5 p.m. Prats is a prodigious talent whose experiences in Cuba and abroad are conveyed in each note Jorge Luis plays. Hailed as a long-lost virtuoso in the grand tradition, Prats’ 2007 concert at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts under the auspices of the Miami International Piano Festival was recorded on the VAI label. The release reawakened great interest in his career and resulted in invitations to perform at the Verbier Festival and in Amsterdam’s Concertgebouwfor four consecutive years. Not suggested for children under 10 years of age. Tickets are $35-$50.
Following two sold-out performances Iast year, Gelb Productions presents An Acoustic Evening with Matisyahu on Wednesday, January 22 and Thursday, January 23 at 8 p.m.
In stripped-back versions of his chart-topping songs from his deep catalog, he pairs his voice and beat-boxing with inventive guitar arrangements which expand through lyrical intensity and musical improvisation. The shows will feature original Live at Stubbs guitarist Aaron Dugan and Miami-native guitarist Adam Weinberg. Tickets are $59 with $109 VIP tickets include seating in the first two rows and a meet and greet.
The Second City Laughing For all the Wrong Reasons breaks all the comedy rules in this new, hilarious revue on Friday, January 24 at 8 p.m. According to the New York Times, "The entire recent tradition of American satire can be summed up in three words: The Second City." The Second City has taken its act on the road, performing social and political satire starring the next generation of comedy superstars. Fresh, fast and always spectacularly funny, The Second City is celebrating nearly 60 years of producing cutting-edge satirical revues and launching the careers of generation after generation of comedy’s best and brightest. Tickets are $40.
With 100 Billboard Chart hits and 15 GRAMMY Award® nominations, Vocal Group Hall of Fame Inductee, The Four Seasons’ Charles Calello and His Big Band perform on Saturday, January 25 at 8 p.m. Calello is a former member of the Four Seasons and music arranger for most of the group's top ten hits. He leads a 17-piece band and two singers to perform many of the hit songs he helped create: “Walk Like a Man,” “Dawn (Go Away) Let's Hang On,” “Working My Way Back to You,” “My Eyes Adored You” and “Swearing to God.” This nationally-acclaimed hitmaker takes you on a tour that mingles highlights of his career by performing his original arrangements for top artists on hit songs, such as: “Sweet Caroline” with Neil Diamond, “My Heart Belongs to Me” with Barbra Streisand, “After the Lovin'” with Engelbert Humperdinck, “Southern Nights” with Glen Campbell and more. A trio of Broadway and New York City cabarets’ best voices join forces in A Star is Born: The Concert on Sunday, January 26 at 7 p.m. Judy Garland, Barbra Streisand and Lady Gaga stole our hearts in three iconic film versions of A Star is Born. Audiences can celebrate the music once again with “The Man That Got Away,” “Shallow” and the Academy Award®-winning “Evergreen.” The concert will also include solo hits and iconic songs that brought these three female superstars to their respective versions of this film. Tickets are $45-$49, $25 student tickets available.
The City of Aventura and Nova Southeastern University’s 2019-20 Speaker Series which is presented in cooperation with the NSU Lifelong Learning Institute continues with G. Nelson Bass III, Ph.D., J.D.: The Presidency - Past and Future on Tuesday, January 28 at 7:30 p.m. discussing the current state of politics. Political scientists have utilized a variety of methodologies and tools to explain the shifting power of the presidency and the ways in which we analyze presidential success and failure. This talk will examine some of the most influential studies and discuss recent trends that may alter the way we study the presidency moving forward. Tickets are $20.
An authentic performance of Louis Armstrong and It’s a Wonderful World of Jazz will have audiences believing Louis Armstrong came back to life on Friday, January 31 at 8 p.m. Troy Anderson and his band will perform hits like “Hello, Dolly!,” “Blueberry Hill,” “When the Saints Go Marching In,” “Dream A Little Dream of Me,” “Jeepers Creepers,” “What a Wonderful World” and many more. Hailing from Germany, Anderson and his band reincarnate this bygone era. A meet and greet will be held in the lobby after the show. Tickets are $35-$55.
