April Performances at The Aventura Arts & Cultural Center

AVENTURA, Fla. (March 3, 2020) – The Aventura Arts & Cultural Center’s season continues with the best of Broadway, concerts, two international films, dance, classical music and more this April.

The Broadway Concert Series Presented by Vi at Aventura concludes with Lucie Arnaz “I GOT THE JOB!”: Songs From My Musical Past on Wednesday, April 1 at 8 p.m. Celebrating a life on stage, Arnaz returns to her theater roots looking back at some of the roles she has had on stages throughout the world. From her first role at 14 as The Cheshire Cat in Alice In Wonderland to a grandmother hanging upside down on a trapeze while singing about the preciousness of life in Pippin, Arnaz and musical director Ron Abel offer audiences this brand new concert sharing stories and songs that she has long been known for. With anecdotes and fond memories about her co-stars, directors and musical collaborators, she offers iconic songs and hidden treasures from some of Broadway’s greatest shows and a look at the backstage magic it takes to create them. A not to be missed evening of entertainment celebrating our great American Musical Theatre. Tickets are $50-$55, $75 VIP tickets include a post-show meet and greet.

 

Beach Boys Tribute is an authentic performance which pays tribute to the greatest pop group of all time on Friday, April 3 at 8 p.m. From the tight vocal arrangements to the striped shirts, The Shindigs Surf Party Band effectively recreates a live Beach Boys performance from the mid ‘60s by using the very same vintage Hammond organ, guitars, amplifiers, and drums that The Beach Boys used on stage. Complementary leis will be provided as the audience sings along to favorite hits like “Surfin’ USA,” “Good Vibrations,” “I Get Around,” “Help Me Rhonda,” “California Girls,” “Surfin’ Safari,” “In My Room,” “Barbara Ann” and more. The Shindigs aren't just seasoned musical pros, they're also fans of the Southern California surf scene, the hotrod lifestyle and the music that set the tone for the rest of the country. Tickets are $35-$55 with a complimentary meet and greet with the band after the show.

Presented in cooperation with the City of Aventura, Brazilian Voices present Amazonas is a poetic tribute to the rainforest on Saturday, April 4 at 5 and 8:30 p.m. This South Florida-based, award-winning vocal group is noted for its musical excellence in jazz, Bossa Nova, Samba and pop. They will perform a special selection of works highlighting the group's noted strengths: powerful interpretation, rich harmonies, passionate approach and a delightful fluidity and warmth to their singing. Tickets are $35 - $40.

Ballet Flamenco La Rosa in Concert presents a new, pure Flamenco music and dance production exploring the depth and breadth of the art form on Sunday, April 5 at 7 p.m. With a range of dynamic rhythms and styles that are soulful, joyous, sensual and passionate, this dance performance features the exquisite music, exhilarating footwork, and the elegant grace and beauty that has made Flamenco so loved by audiences throughout the world. A non-profit organization, Ballet Flamenco La Rosa’s mission is to present authentic Flamenco dance with live music in a theatrical setting, expanding the art form beyond traditional limits to appeal to broad-based audiences. It is known for its high artistic level, stellar guest artists and dedication to nurturing and perpetuating the rich art of Flamenco and has delighted standing-room only audiences for over three decades. Tickets are $35-$45.

The Aventura International Film Series continues with Balloon on Tuesday, April 7 at 7:30 p.m. In a divided Germany of 1979, the residents of the East live under the watchful eye of the Stasi, the notorious secret police. During this time two families have been working on an audacious escape plan for more than two years - to flee East Germany in a self-made hot air balloon. But the balloon crashes just short of the West German border. The Stasi find traces of the attempted escape and launch an investigation, while the two families work under extreme pressure build a new balloon. The Stasi get closer and closer each day and a nerve-racking battle against the clock begins. Not rated, this film is from Germany and has English subtitles. The Aventura International Film Series presented by the City of Aventura is hosted by Shelly Isaacs who introduces the film and leads a post-screening discussion.  Tickets are $12.                                                                                                   

"Florida Keys" International Music Competition (IMC), in honor of the great Azerbaijani Composer Jevdet Hajiyev, will be held on Monday, April 13 at 7 p.m. This special event was conceived to showcase young talented musicians in developing their musical individuality and improving their mastery. "Florida Keys" IMC offers aspiring musicians a chance to display their talents on the great stages of the world, and their laureates perform on stages in New York, Vienna, Paris, Miami, as well as other renowned stages. Young talents from around the world will perform classical music and music from a variety of cultures from around the globe. Following the concert, there will be an awards ceremony to honor the participants. Tickets are $40.

Divalicious Starring Holly Faris on Thursday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m. is a dazzling, one-woman show which has thrilled audiences from coast-to-coast with her assortment of celebrity impersonations and comedy. From Joan Rivers, Tina Turner, Cher, Dolly Parton, Liza Minelli, Marilyn Monroe, Bette Midler and so many others, Faris takes audiences down memory lane in this fun and nostalgic show from the showrooms of Las Vegas and Atlantic City. Tickets are $39 

Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida - Spring Gala ends its season with a classical repertoire that only highly-talented dancers can perform on Saturday, April 18 at 7:30 p.m. Under the direction of Ballet Master Vladimir Issaev, the Spring Gala repertoire includes the most famous classical Pas de Deux and neo-classical pieces by Vladimir Issaev and guest choreographers and international dancers. Not suggested for those four years of age and under. Tickets are $35

The Miami International Piano Festival’s Kemal Gekic performs on Sunday, April 26 at 5 p.m. Flamboyant, daring, provocative, exciting, seductive and sensitive are some of the words used to describe one of today’s most formidable pianists, whose playing has been acclaimed worldwide by the public and critics alike. His daring approach to tone and form marked him as a maverick in the musical world, a distinction he welcomes: the very strength of his artistry challenges, provokes, intrigues. Performing worldwide from a vast repertoire, he presents fascinating, uncompromising and ever-changing interpretations, always generating frenzied audience enthusiasm. As a recording artist, Gekic has won accolades in Europe, America, and Japan for insightful, original views of the music. Tickets are $35-$50.

The Aventura International Film Series’ season concludes with Woman at War on Tuesday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m.  Halla, a woman in her forties, declares war on the local aluminum industry to prevent it from disfiguring her country. She risks all she has to protect the highlands of Iceland, but the situation could change with an unexpected arrival in her life. The Hollywood Reporter calls the film "Offbeat, poignant and visually exquisite. Not rated, this film is from Iceland and has English subtitles. The Aventura International Film Series presented by the City of Aventura is hosted by Shelly Isaacs who introduces the film and leads a post-screening discussion.  Tickets are $12.
